Aerogel insulation adds another layer by trapping heat far better than conventional fiberglass, keeping interiors protected even when outer surfaces heat up. Rising fire activity tied to climate trends makes these upgrades more urgent. The 2023 Canadian wildfires alone scorched 45 million acres, and insurance costs in fire-prone regions have climbed sharply. They don’t eliminate danger, yet they buy valuable time for evacuation and firefighting crews. Retrofitting key areas like roofs and vents usually runs between $10,000 and $30,000.

Communities are adapting through programs like California’s Ember Defense Initiative, which requires these features in new construction. As wildfire seasons grow more severe, the focus on durable materials helps neighborhoods stay intact rather than starting over after every major burn.
